NUCA Scholarship Program Open for Members

The National Utility Contractors Association is pleased to announce to its membership the opening of the 2021 scholarship program.

NUCA is also proud to announce the Walter Gainer Scholarship, formerly the NUCA Scholarship. Funded by the NUCA Foundation for Education and Research and the Florida Chapter Scholarship Committee, the Walter Gainer Scholarship will provide up to three students a $1,000 scholarship for four years.

These scholarships will be awarded to students who also qualify for vocation and/or certificate programs. It is important for our industry to recognize that talent exists outside the post-secondary university system and reward those students who wish to purse this educational avenue towards a rewarding life-long career.

NUCA created the Walter Gainer Scholarship in recognition of his many years of service to NUCA and the industry. Gainer was NUCA’s president in 1997. He worked his way through almost every position of the family business W.F. Wilson & Sons, based in Baltimore, Maryland, becoming its president in 1988 and remaining in the top job until his death. Gainer passed away June 2020 in Ellicott City, Maryland.

Any high school senior whose parent or guardian is employed by a NUCA member company in good standing may apply. Student employees, including students who work part time are eligible, as are dependents of NUCA Chapter Executive Directors.

This scholarship program is provided to NUCA members as another benefit for being part of the nation’s premier utility construction association. NUCA members enjoy many benefits as part of membership, including access to our NUCA Advantage healthcare and online learning management systems, and being part of our local NUCA Chapter system. Members also enjoy business benefits such as reduced UPS shipping costs and Lenovo computers.

The application deadline for 2021 scholarships is May 31, 2021. Scholarships will be awarded to students for the 2021 fall semester.
